Brain by Gwen Hilton

The brain can stay alive for up to thirty minutes after completion of suicide by hanging. The brain can stay alive for up to thirty minutes after what looks like completion of suicide by hanging. I learned this after the person who told me hugged me very tight. She usually isn’t like that with me. Her former employee called his girlfriend and she didn’t pick up. The girlfriend was commuting home and didn’t see her phone. She was stuck in traffic. It is probable that she arrived while the brain was alive, but the man was dead. Maybe the man was alive and the brain was too. The most salient point for me is the brain can stay alive for up to thirty minutes after completion of suicide by hanging. If his body was taken to a hospital and he was mostly braindead, but alive it’s unlikely he could think himself into a state of regret. You keep the body alive long enough for everyone to say goodbye. I doubt she could cut him down in time to stop the total ceasing. Reversing the suicide, or what that successful outcome would be described as would involve immediate decisive action and appropriate tools. Were his eyes open when she walked in? Was his brain alive enough to see her come home and react? I think about it. I’ve botched my own hanging a few times. I was sad for other reasons when the woman was hugging me. Earlier in that day I would’ve chosen the word suicidal. She told me that the last time she saw him was so hurried. She tried to say hello and chat, but he didn’t have the time. He stopped having the time on the street. He stopped smiling on the street shortly thereafter and he could not recognize the people recognizing him.
